In plain English, because a policy nobody reads protects nobody.
A digital audiobook: a chaptered .m4b file that you download and keep. There is no subscription, no account, and no expiry. It plays in Apple Books, Audiobookshelf, BookPlayer, or any audiobook app. It is not streamed and it is not rented, so nothing is taken away from you later.
The narration is synthesised, not read by a human performer. We say so plainly here and on every book page, because you should know before you pay, not after.
eBooks and paperbacks are sold on Amazon, not on this site.
A downloaded file cannot be returned — you still have it. So the line we draw is the download, not the purchase:
We can see whether a purchase was ever downloaded, so this is a fact we check, not a judgement we make about you. If something has gone wrong and it does not fit neatly in the list above, reply to your receipt anyway and a person will read it.
If you are buying from the EU or UK: your statutory right to withdraw from a distance purchase does not apply to digital content once delivery has begun, and by downloading the file you accept that delivery has begun and that the right of withdrawal is lost. Until you download, the right stands and so does the refund above.
Please write to us before contacting your bank. A chargeback takes weeks, costs us more than the book, and cannot be resolved by anyone at Lucilius Press — an email is answered the same day.
Immediately after payment the thank-you page lists every title you bought with a download button, and a receipt email arrives with the same links. The links do not expire: they re-check your payment each time, so they keep working for as long as you own the book. Files run from 49 MB to roughly 470 MB, so they are sent as links, never as attachments.
Each purchase allows a generous number of downloads — enough for every device you own and then some — and then the link stops, to prevent one receipt being posted publicly as a free mirror. If you hit the limit honestly, reply to your receipt and we will reset it.
The audiobook is sold to you for your own listening, on as many of your own devices as you like, forever. It carries no DRM, deliberately: you bought it, it is yours, and it will outlive us. What is not permitted is redistribution — uploading it, sharing the file publicly, or reselling it.
Our translations are original works and are copyright Lucilius Press. The ancient texts they are made from are in the public domain; our English is not. Short quotations with attribution are welcome.
Prices are in US dollars. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. Some titles are also sold through Gumroad, which runs its own checkout and its own terms — if you bought there, refunds go through Gumroad, though you can still write to us and we will help.
We keep your email address and what you bought, because that is what a receipt and a working download link are made of. Stripe holds the payment details. We do not sell or share your data with anyone, and we do not run advertising trackers on this site. If you want your address deleted, ask and it is deleted — note that this also retires your download links, so download your books first.
The books are sold as they are. We stand behind the refund policy above and behind fixing any file that is genuinely faulty; beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our liability for any purchase is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing here removes a right you have by law where you live. These terms are governed by the law of the State of California.
One person reads this mailbox: [email protected]. Replying to your receipt reaches the same place and tells us which order you mean.
